1st Reconciliation & 1st Communion
What an exciting and grace-filled year lies ahead for your child! Receiving the Sacraments is among the most beautiful gifts our Heavenly Father has given His Church. This year, your child will prepare to receive two beautiful Sacraments:
- Sacrament of Reconciliation
- First Holy Communion
These are two profound encounters with Jesus in which His mercy and love are poured out in abundance.
As Saint John Paul II so beautifully taught about the Sacrament of Reconciliation:
“Confession is an act of honesty and courage – an act of entrusting ourselves, beyond sin, to the mercy of a loving and forgiving God.”
And as Saint Pius X, the “Pope of the Eucharist,” reminded us:
“Holy Communion is the shortest and the safest way to Heaven.”
To prepare well for these sacred moments, the Church looks for certain signs of readiness. By the time of receiving, your child should:
- Recognize the difference between ordinary bread and the Eucharist
- Understand, at a child’s level, the difference between right and wrong and the need for God’s forgiveness
- Express a genuine desire to receive Jesus and to be forgiven
In order to receive these Sacraments, your child must:
- Attend weekly Religious Education (at school or at the parish)
- Attend the required family meetings (schedule below)
- Attend Mass regularly
- Be baptized (provide copy of baptism certificate at time of registration)
We are privileged to walk with your family during this special time of preparation.
